  • Calculating for Success

    Funded Apr 1, 2021

Thank you for your generous contribution to our classroom and our special needs students! We asked for a class set of calculators because our goal is to provide our students with the necessary life skills and experiences to easily transition them to life outside of the classroom. Some students with math-related disabilities have difficulty with retrieving facts, language, and memories. With your contribution, we have provided calculators to each of our students and practice using them every day! While some students are using the devices to match numbers in an equation to those on the calculator, others are working through real-world math problems.

With your help, our students have learned a skill they will use for the rest of their lives. Again, thank you for showing such kindness and generosity to our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Massey

  • Help Us Prepare For At-Home Learning

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

Thank you for your generous donations to our special needs classroom. You were able to provide our students with mice and microphone headsets that helped tremendously. Our students used their microphone headsets to communicate and participate in speech, music, and art classes. Our students also love using their mice with their technology since it provides a much easier way to navigate through their assignments rather than using touchpads. Thanks to your contributions, we were able to help 20 students adjust to a new way of learning both at home and in the classroom. We are so grateful for your kindness during this difficult time!”

  • Socializing Through Sportsmanship

    Funded Mar 3, 2020

Our students absolutely loved having the opportunity to use the board games you all provided for us. Most of our students were unfamiliar with most of the games we received, so being able to watch our students' eyes light up when learning how to play was exciting in itself! Learning camaraderie and sportsmanship in a unique way inspired our students to take it beyond the board and cards and with one another on the playground and even outside of the school! We cherish the memories you were able to give us in a time before the pandemic restricted being socializing.

We are excited for the time when we can safely work with the materials you've given our classroom and are eagerly awaiting to work together again on our social skills.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Massey

  • Question, Ask, Listen and Learn!

    Funded Dec 26, 2019

We are so grateful for your generosity toward our students. Without headphones, it was easy for our kids to get lost or distracted by everything going on around them. Each student now has their own set of headphones that allow them to focus on their computer and tablet programs without interruptions or distractions. Our students were thrilled when they found out that a set of headphones had been donated to each of them. From day one we could see the growth in academics and their ability to focus on tasks and assignments. We are thankful for the kindness and generosity that you have shown us and our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Massey

Our classroom has a set of three student desk tops and two iPads. Each of our students spend about 30 minutes studying on programs such as Study Island, Education Galaxy, iStation, Starfall, epic!, and more. Though it is absolutely necessary for our students to have the program read aloud to them for better focus, it is very difficult to have eight students on different levels, working on different programs reading at the same time. We ask for each student to have their headphones, to understand the importance of responsibility. Our special needs students often experience overstimulation, or an overwhelming feeling from too much going on around them while still trying to take in the information presented in front of them. Having headphones that cover our student's ears helps eliminate extra noise and stimulation from other students learning and exploring around them. We also ask for an Echo Dot Kids Edition. With this device, students would be able to set their own reminders, for example if their specials time were changed to a different time, or set a timer to see how quickly they can complete their multiplication table. The Echo Dot also will also access materials from Audible, allowing students to have a choice of listening to stories and books while in library. The device will also provide us with relaxing music to work with in our stations.
