Many of us go through our whole lives taking aspirin and Tylenol yet never knowing the difference between the two. Yet, we put these substances into our body while paying little attention to their effect on us. My 11th grade team at HTHCV will ensure that we and our community are well informed of the effects of drugs on our body and the context that surround their complicated history and regulations. This Biology project will be an informative flip book which we will use to help spread awareness about the truth and dangers of drugs. Each flipbook will not only contain visuals of the human body but will also be diving into the microscopic scale of where everything first started, which is a single cell. Using classroom art and crafts supplies will make the projects come to life!
In class, students will be learning the microscopic to macroscopic scale of all organ systems. In order to help students understand the macroscopic scale of the human body, the students would benefit greatly from using dissection materials to get a hands-on learning experience. After going through the process of circulation, digestion, and excretion, using pig fetus' and hearts will allow students to see how all the organ systems connect to one another and examine each organ individually. With the help of these kits, students will have a better understanding of how the human body can be affected by consuming drugs. These kits will also provide a great way for students to teach parents and community members the different systems our bodies have. I would love for students to dissect specimens at our exhibition day to give their flip book more meaning!
