COVID closures had a negative impact on our students' access to Library books, stunted their emotional growth with a reduction in face to face interactions with others, and left many of them feeling less in control. Not only do the books in this project support students' Social Emotional Learning and ELA and Social Studies standards in the classroom, they also meet Library standards for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade including; K.2.T.3a With guidance and support: Listen to diverse texts to learn about self and community, 1.2.T.3a Independently: Listen to diverse texts to learn about self and community, 2.2.T.3a With guidance and support: Listen to or read diverse texts to learn about self and community, 3.2.T.3a Independently: Listen to or read diverse texts to learn about self and community, 4.2.T.3a With guidance and support: Seek diverse texts to learn about self and community, and 5.2.T.3a Independently: Seek diverse texts to learn about self and community.
By donating to our project, you'll be providing books to inspire students to embrace challenges, embrace kindness, and embrace becoming a leader in their own lives. The books in this project feature a diverse range of characters, cultures, and life lessons that directly tie in with our school's leadership initiatives. Both students and teachers will have access to these books as part of our school library collection. Now that our Library is OPEN again, my students and teachers can't wait to get their hands on some NEW books!
