  • New Books

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you so much for your willingness to support my classroom, learners, and myself. I truly appreciate all that you have given to my classroom this year. I am so grateful to be a teacher and feel my community's support. Each year provides new opportunities to change a student's life. I have most often seen this done through literature. The books that were so generously given help to illustrate my changing students. I am grateful that they are able to see themselves and their peers in these stories.”

  • Working Together to Learn Forever

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you so much for your willingness and selflessness to provide for my classroom. I have seen student interest and participation already skyrocket since these materials arrived. Words will never be enough to convey how grateful I am to use these books, pens, and whiteboards. I want you to know that these materials will not just be used in my current classes, but also in classes to come! The books that I ordered have already been checked out by students. The whiteboards that I ordered have already been used in class and have led to laughs and learning. The pens that I ordered have been used to help organize thinking and develop deeper writing skills!”

  • Living Through Literature

    Funded Jan 31, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Because of your kindness, my students are able to explore and escape. My students were so excited to see the new books, the idea with the bookshelf, and the whiteboards. They have loved using all three of these items, and have increased their knowledge of authors. They have also retained more vocabulary words due to the games we can now play with the whiteboards. It has been so fun to see the students excited to learn and happy to be in the classroom with eachother.”

  • Reading and Working Together

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you so much for your kind and generous donations. I am so excited to get these books to the students. I know that so many diverse groups within my classroom will find belonging and acceptance through the main character's family, life, and struggles. I know that these stories will leave a lasting impact on their lives and help them to solve problems the way that these characters have. In providing these books, you have done more than just provide a piece of entertainment, you have provided a friend.”

  • Building Readers and Bridges

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for your wonderful donation. The day I got these books I was so excited. I unboxed the books, wrapped them in protective wrapping, and put them on the shelf ready for my students.

The next day all of the new books were on the desks of my students. They were so excited to read the new books and a lot were excited to see that some of the main characters looked like them, acted like them, and thought like them.

Today, these books are still the first ones off the shelves. Students are talking to each other about the books that they are reading and sharing their own ideas and opinions.”

  • Learning Non-Fiction Through Fiction

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my current students and students to come. These young minds are growing up in a world that seems to constantly be drawing dividing lines. Because of this, often these students are hearing only one side of the story and based on different factors of their lives, two students sitting beside one another can share the same story but with different narratives.

That is why these books are so important to me and to these students. They help to create a dialogue based on some topics that even adults do not know how to address. By these students learning about and sympathising with the main characters, social classes, race, and other bias' are less and less present.

Again thank you. Thank you for helping to mold the minds of the next generation with generosity, understanding, and willingness to learn. Because of your donation, these students will go out into the world and make it better and brighter for everyone.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

  • Readers Reading

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Words cannot express how grateful I am to your kind donations. I have seen a huge increase in students' willingness to read and their excitement to read. During our scheduled time classroom reading I would have so many students ask if they could leave class and go look for a book somewhere in the library. Now I have my own classroom library and I have students talking to each other about the books that they have on their desks for the day.

These books have done more than just grow interest in reading. They have allowed students to see themselves as these characters. I recall a personal experience with a student coming to me with conflict in her life. In her hands, I saw that she was reading Scythe and I asked her if she would handle it like Citra or like Anastasia. Her eyes lit up and she truly considered how to best go about resolving her conflict.

These books have created lasting characters in my student's minds. They see that each good character has bad traits and each bad character has good. They have opened the eyes of my students and have made deeper connections and understandings possible. The great readers are the great leaders. Thank you again so much for this lasting gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

The project, Readers Reading, is about suppling students with new and exciting classroom books that engage and challenge the readers. Once a month, I do a small project that demonstrates why the students should read this book. The student's initial excitement and interest over these books are what gives them the drive to read. However, with the excitement over one book, the line and waitlist to check it out can be months long. This wait can make the student forget the initial excitement. Therefore, I need more books with either the same type of genre or author. After a student has finished reading a classroom book, they will then give their own demonstration of the book. I will allow for three different options and the student will be able to pick the option best suited for themselves. Each option will have a rubric for the student to follow and will be graded on a 1-4 scale. Thankfully, books have a long life span with repairs being as quick and easy as a piece of tape. These books will be around for a very long time both in my classroom and in the minds of those who read them.
