As I sit and reflect on the annual case review meetings for my IEP students, I can truly say what productive meetings! All the required participants were at the table, parents, student, teacher of record, general education teacher, counselor, social worker, and administrator. I recalled how especially prepared my parents were for the IEP meeting. They had been given a copy of IEP and Inclusion Tips for Parents and Teachers. The parents were able to read the various topics included in the book and understand what made an IEP educationally correct. The parents were also able to ensure that their child received access to the general education curriculum. The parents stated they were so pleased with the resources given to them which enabled them to make informative decisions ensuring academic success with their child. So often as the parents stated, they feel left out of the information shared between the "professionals". However, though the information in the book, they felt "empowered." The information provided in the book guided them through the IEP meeting process-- with positive results for their child. Wow, this is my vision, my dream come true.
