Drumline in Time

Funded Jan 7, 2024

Drumline in Time was a huge success at I.S. 217 School of Performing Arts. When I introduced the new drum pads to students, their faces lit up. They were excited to get to practice as an entire class without having to wait for their own turn. Having a drum pad for every student helped speed up their learning process and expand on projects easily.

With the new drum pads, students learned the basic rudiments of percussion. One student stated "I love that these practice pads allow us all to play without getting overwhelmed with sound." Another student mentioned "I love learning the exercises and practicing independently. It is actually easy to do that now that we all have our own drum pad during class!"

Throughout the last few months, students have strengthened their music reading skills, their ability to keep a steady beat and have built their passion for drumming. As their teacher, I also had the opportunity to attend New York City Public Schools Arts Office Professional Development on drumline in order to improve my skills and bring back exciting and innovative ways to teach drumming to the students.

I.S. 217 School of Performing Arts will continue expanding their drumline with the purchasing of new instruments for next year now that students are excited and motivated to keep learning. Thank you to everyone who helped bring out student curiosity and creativity for the students involved with Dumline in Time.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Murray
