Inclusivity is Key!
Funded Feb 22, 2020Thank you for donating to my classroom. I am proud to say that the students you donated to during the very difficult year of 2020, are thriving as both readers and mathematicians! Your kindness has touched the hearts of my students and their families. They have been inspired to reach out to others in their own communities, who need a helping hand. When we reach out to each other and offer a helping hand, the world becomes a kinder and overall better place. The educational resources acquired during this campaign ensured that every learner felt included and confident in the curriculum being taught. Every student should be entitleD to engaging and accessible educational materials. Thank you for helping to make the futures of young learners BRIGHT!”

Funded Jun 11, 2021It is with a thankful heart that I write you this letter. It is because of people like you, that my students were afforded reading opportunities while out of the classroom for the summer. These books met the individual interests, languages, and reading levels of each students.
My students all appreciate the interesting and engaging texts they were able to take home for the summer. It allowed them to practice their literacy skills while at the beach, on a long car ride, or even during a rainy summer day.
Reading allows them to let their imaginations run wild, something so special to a child, especially during a pandemic. Books allow us to travel to new places, and see through the eyes of others. Thank you for bringing joy to my students through the love for literacy.”

Funded Feb 21, 2021This year has challenged us all in many different ways. For my students and their families, it has challenged their access to academic, and sanitary resources. While trying to keep my students engaged in their learning, and healthy while in school, I found myself struggling to keep up with well-needed art materials and sanitary supplies. That in where YOU came in to save the day!
Through your generous donation, my students have been able to express themselves artistically, and learn about the beauty within different cultures through painting. They were also able to create self-portraits and write a piece about what makes them beautifully unique!
As you know certain sanitary supplies were very difficult, and very expensive to come by this year. This put a very large burden on teachers. Thank to you, my students were able to utilize sanitizing wipes, and paper towels to ensure cleanliness in the classroom.
My students and I understand the difficult circumstances of the year. We acknowledge how giving someone has to be, to give during a time that is already troubling for themselves. You are a superhero in a time of need, and we have the utmost appreciation for you. We hope you enjoy the photos that give a visual of how happy you made us this year!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Sclafani
Essentials for Excellence
Funded Aug 30, 2020It has truly been a challenging year for us all. I wanted to take the time to acknowledge how despite these challenges, you were still willing to give. During one of the most unpredictable times and circumstances, you cared to serve those in need.
At the beginning of the school year, teachers were fearful toward what we would have to endure, and worse, bringing it home to our families. Unfortunately, sanitation and preventative supplies were given to teachers scarcely. I took a leap of faith and made this campaign in hopes that I would have the materials needed to create a safe and healthy environment for my students. That is when YOU gave something so extraordinary to my classroom: hope. With the basic supplies necessary, my students are able to have hope for normalcy. Hope for stability. Hope for a healthier and happier tomorrow.
Every time they reach for a sanitizing wipe, every time I turn on the air filter, every time they wash their hands, I think about how fortunate I am to have had such a generous group of donors, friends, and family to carry us through this school year safely, and provide these "Essentials for Excellence."
If there were any positives that came out of 2020, I hope that the idea of an 8 year old student, joyously coming to school, knowing that they have a safe and clean place to claim normalcy, happiness, and safety is one of them. This was only possible because of YOU. Because of you, our classroom has been kept open since September. Because of you, we have HOPE for a better tomorrow. We thank you endlessly for your generous it's.”

When We Read, We Know. When We Learn, We Grow!
Funded Nov 22, 2019I write to you with much appreciation in my heart. I am a second-year teacher at a title-one school. This year, I had to move to a brand new classroom that did not have as many resources as I had the previous year. I never really thought about making a Donors Choose Project because I never thought I would actually get founded.
Every week I have my 5th graders choose a new book from my class library, so they may always foster a love for reading, even if they cannot afford to buy books on their own, or if they don't have access to a library. I noticed that the class library I had was not encouraging my students to read as much as I had hoped, that's when I decided to start a Donors Choose project. With hope in my heart, I created a project that would provide books that were new, engaging, diverse, and appropriate for the individual reading levels of my students.
Since we've received our materials, our students could not be more enthusiastic to choose their weekly chapter book. We were provided with books of every genre, that cater to a diverse group of learners. Sometimes I even catch them trying to read a book under their desk while I'm teaching! Although every teacher would like all of their students to be focused during lessons, I can't help but smile a little as I see them try to sneak just one more page before putting a book down. Thank you for making a big difference in the life of a hopeful new teacher, and the lives of 28 bight-eyed and determined learners.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Sclafani
