As emergent readers, my students need to be interested and excited about reading. If students feel connected to what they read, their interest peaks and they are motivated. I want my students to both see themselves in our library and be exposed to the diversity that makes up our world. We will build community and tolerance through reading. The books we read will then spark writing and art extension lessons. Our class does a lot of arts integration because students are able to express themselves ad their learning in a variety of ways. Building a strong foundation early on is crucial!
