As a first year teacher, I would love to provide my students with various flexible seating opportunities! I have had the wonderful opportunities to look at other classrooms to gather ideas of how a successful classroom will look like. And now it is my turn to provide the young scholars a classroom that is tailored to their success. Allowing students to have flexible seating builds motivation to stay focused and also an incentive to work harder for something they truly desire. I have chosen seat cushions that students can place on their chairs when at their desks. Donut balls are also a great way to allow the students to come together when being put in small groups. Scoop rockers will be placed in the library where a group of students are able to sit on during free reading. ALL students will be able to sit on the rockers as it will be changed every week. When the library is occupied with the students who are sitting on the rockers, the portable writing table will also be distributed to students that will have the opportunity to sit anywhere in the classroom to read or work on class assignments. By adding a carpet, it builds a sense of inclusion when having classroom discussions, morning talks or even read aloud. The most important times in a classroom is when the students and teacher are sitting together as a whole. The day begins and ends with carpet time which enables every student to have the opportunity to express themselves. These types of interactions on a common ground (carpet) will allow the students to have their day filled with positivity and that is exactly what I want for my students- a platform for them to be themselves and to speak what is on their mind!
