I am creating a calm environment for Hale Jr. High students to express themselves in a positive way. Several students have challenges with agression and I want to teach them ways to channel their emotions because it escalates to a different level. The calm room gives them a place to escape and deescalate before escalating. Children sometime get home and don't have a room to call their own. They don't have th opportunity to escape and together their thoughts. This room will have various areas of the room entitled different names, for example: The waterfall corner, the let it go corner, Meditation Corner. It's not a place to feel as though their being punished. It's a place where they can feel safe and breathe. The student will have a least 15 - 30 minutes to visit the Ranger Station and visit a quiet corner and possibly talk to teacher to see what we can do to get them back to a normal classroom setting.
