Please help me give my students learning materials for home and distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our state is not reopening schools for the remainder of the year, leaving the sudents to access learning digitally from their homes. I teach wonderful children who are learning to self-regulate in a Social Emotional Behavior Support Classroom (SEBS). The students in my program are in grades 1-4 and require specialized instruction aimed at developing coping, decision-making, problem solving, interaction, and self regulation skills. The school is a suburban neighborhood elementary school and the students all qualify for free breakfast and lunch. They majority of families are considered at poverty level. These students have the chromebooks they were lent by the district, but not much more. While we are remote teaching/learning, I am finding the students need materials at home to support them in their success. In the classroom, we have access to supplies such as paper and pencils, headphones, and whiteboards, but these students do not have these at home. They show up to class meetings unable to write things down or even draw pictures. Additionally, they are unable to focus on lessons due to noise and need headphones. The closure is truly devestating to special education students.
