These materials will be used daily for sustained silent reading and for nightly reading at home. My students are required to read ten books of their interest throughout the year, and sometimes, my library cannot meet their specific reading demands. After reading every book, students are assessed on a monthly basis. These assessments change monthly and add continuity and accountability to our literacy project. Adding these books to our class library will help meet their literacy needs and foster their love of reading. Moreover, students will improve their Lexile levels and enhance their reading comprehension skills at the same time.
