All of my students learn in different, unique ways, which is why it is so important as a Special Education Teacher, to diversify and engage all students, while fulfilling their individual educational needs. A personal goal of mine is to inspire my students in everything that they do. Math is a subject that can become cut and dry, especially when following a prescribed curriculum. My project's goal is to enhance student learning, engagement and motivation through hands-on learning. Task cards, which can be differentiated and targeted to meet all learning needs, require laminating pouches, cardstock, velcro dots and a task card organizer to keep things neat from year to year. In addition to task cards, my students would greatly benefit from different games which focus on fact fluency, a major area of need which the curriculum doesn't focus on. Games, such as Triazzle, a wooden hexagon puzzle and Jenga to name a few are games that target student perseverance which helps students focus and keep pushing themselves even when learning gets challenging. My students have both educational and behavioral needs which is why resources for differentiated and targeted task cards as well as fluency and perseverance games would truly enhance student learning this year and years to come.
