We are piloting an aquaponics program at our school that our teachers and students are very anxious to begin using once you graciously donate our needed items. This is truly a school wide program in that we have input and help from all subject areas in the school. I have shared this exciting project with our feeder and neighboring schools because they will have opportunities to observe the implementation and design to one day develop their own.
The materials donated by you will enhance student learning by teaching them the importance of fostering community involvement and broaden their problem-solving skills. Also, these lights and heating mats will aid in the growth and development of the system as a whole. For example, not only will students learn with hands-on experiences, they will master the technical information such as the importance of PH, temperature, and nutrition cycles for plants and fish.
Unfortunately, we have exhausted all of our funding and resources. It would be heartbreaking to both students and teachers to not continue building this educational aquaponics project. Teachers and students have already put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears (literally) with building the system, starting seeds in trays, and transplanting them into the float beds of the system. In addition, they have been feeding the fish, cleaning the tank, checking the temp and pH, and many other tasks that gives them first hand experience. With the addition of these lights and mats, the plants will be able to grow and produce fruit year round. With your help, you can support our efforts to be the pioneering school with a unique outdoor classroom.
