• Growing the Schoolyard Garden

Students have begun the school year pouring over the titles purchased with this Donors Choose campaign. Even the most reluctant readers have been reading the graphic novels. There has been so much growth in love of reading already, and I can't wait to see how it continues to build over the school year!

• Books for Budding and Blooming Readers

  The titles purchased have been a breath of fresh air for my classroom library. Reluctant readers are getting excited about the Science Comics and Magic Tree House graphic novels, and students are joining in book talks about series as they go through them.

  Thank you for your generous contribution to my classroom library! The books that were purchased through your donation have already become beloved titles that are circulated, shared, and read aloud amongst the 4th graders. It has been a delight to watch which new genres and titles each child is drawn to. Some of my more reluctant readers have found interest in the Science Comics and Bad Guys books, while the social studies lovers are appreciating the additions to the biography and history sections.

• 3rd Grade Dictionary Discovery

  Thank you so much for donating to literacy in the 3rd grade classrooms! Scholars are already using the dictionaries to support their writing projects. When scholars are searching for a word to complete their sentence, or check their spelling, they are able to get one of the many high quality and engaging dictionaries that are now a part of every day in the classroom.

  The rich illustrations and variety of words in the dictionaries have been incredibly compelling to my students. I did not anticipate how enthralled they would be just by browsing the dictionary on its own. This has lead to much excitement as students are discovering new words to add to their future vocabulary and writing projects.

  I've noticed that students who struggle with decoding and encoding are particularly drawn to the classroom dictionaries. They are building their confidence in both reading and writing, and now have a tool at their disposal. This empowerment will be felt in their literacy growth for school years to come. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!”
