Unlike any other field trip in the world, this STEM program inspires and educates students through an immersive, educational program where they first learn science and technology and then defy gravity by actually flying!
Students make real-world connections to the concepts they learn in school while they watch/experience physics in action come to life in a state-of-the-art wind tunnel!!
The iFLY STEM Program for Elementary School aims to instill the following in students:
Increase awareness of exciting STEM careers.
Learn how STEM is used in the real world.
Understand the differences between solids and fluids.
Analyze the effects of different forces on an object.
Plan investigations and defining variables in an experiment.
Measure and record data, and interpret results.
Understand variability, uncertainty, and error in experimental results.
Students are guided by highly trained STEM educators who take them through an immersive, hands-on experience.
The iFLY field trip consists of three parts: a presentation of the science and engineering involved in the wind tunnel, a hands-on lab experiment, and individual student flights in the wind tunnel with a trained flight instructor. They will learn about force and motion, fluids and solids, and explore the engineering design process. In the lab experiment, students work in small teams to design an experiment with parachutes while they practice investigation skills like observation, hypothesizing, gathering data, and making conclusions. Hands-on investigations like these allow students to experience science the way real scientists do, through asking and exploring their own questions.
This is a full-body experience that makes the STEM concepts truly come alive. This experience will leave a lasting impression on our youth and provide them with knowledge, education, and an experience that will last a lifetime.
Please help our students soar to new heights!!
