  • Empowering Diverse Learners: Aiding Motivation and Inclusivity in the Classroom

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

Thank you for contributing once again to the full funding of my project. Mainstreaming students with diverse needs in the general education classroom can be challenging, but it ultimately allows all students the opportunity to be successful. I’m excited to put your generous donations to work in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Dias

  • Creating a Calming and Inclusive SEL Environment

    Funded Sep 7, 2024

Thank you so much for your selfless contribution to our classroom! Your support inspires and will make a significant difference in the lives of students. With your help, we can create an accessible learning environment that supports students’ academic growth and emotional well-being.

These resources will help my students build the skills they need to manage their emotions, express themselves, and support one another. Your kindness is truly appreciated, and I can't wait to see the positive impact this will have for students.

Thank you for believing in our classroom and for helping us create a space where every student can thrive.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Dias

  • Let Kids Draw

    Funded Aug 31, 2022

My eighth-grade students were excited to receive their colored pencils and use them to add additional color and illustration to their classwork notebooks. Students carry their boxes of colored pencils in their backpacks, using them to annotate, draw, and express themselves creatively.

In ELA class, students use colored pencils to supplement writing activities. Currently, students learning a nonfiction unit focused on food chains. Students used their colored pencils to color-code text, illustrate their favorite foods, and diagram food chains to better understand where their food comes from.

As I encourage students to engage in project-based learning beyond essay writing, I hope students will continue to use their colored pencils to include visual art components to convey their understandings more fully. Thank you once again for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Dias

  • Monitor and Adaptor for Remote Learning

    Funded Mar 5, 2021

Last year, I requested a monitor to support remote reading instruction for my eighth grade students I teach reading to 8th grade students who a getting ready for high school. I know that time spent reading is one of the best predictors of student success, so I offered remedial reading instruction to students who need it and encouraged them to read their interests.

The move to remote instruction has been difficult for my students and me, but the additional computer monitor allowed me to offer more individual support in reading instruction and feedback.

    My Project

This project provided me with a second monitor to effectively deliver instruction remotely from my school laptop. The second screen was used to help small groups, conference with students, better evaluate student work in process, and present additional information. This project will allow me to engage all students more effectively

Remote learning due to COVID-19 has been a struggle for my students and me, but we have adapted and are now using available tools to learn as effectively as we would have in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Dias

Many of my students struggle with reading and finding books that interest them. While I promote my classroom library and encourage students to visit the city library, I believe access to electronic readers in the classroom will inspire students to explore their interests and read more. Many of my students use phones and computers to get information, and making electronic readers available to students would be a natural extension to building on their strengths. For students who do not have a positive reading history, electronic readers can provide an added incentive to motivate students to read more. Students with special needs can also benefit from the additional supports allowed by electronic readers, thereby decreasing barriers to entry.
