  • Grab a Book!

    Funded Nov 9, 2023

Recently I received the new items for my students from my donors choose project! My students and I are thrilled!

The rug is cozy and colorful. The book bags are very useful. We have a cozy spot to enjoy books together. Our class pet bunny can jump out from his cage and hop around and sit next to the children while they read from their book bags. Students have learned to talk quietly and move slowly so the bunny will relax and sit beside them while they read.

I have set up the shelf/organization cart to keep my materials organized and close by my teaching table. I have daily reading groups ranging from 1st - 5th grades. This cart has helped me to keep the wide range of materials more organized and within close reach.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diana

  • Big Kids, Little Kids -Reading Buddy Time!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for your donation to my project "Big Kids, Little Kids- Reading Buddies". Our Reading buddies were so surprised and excited to use the new comfortable and colorful floor seats for reading buddy times! We used the new lamp to brighten a dark corner and create a great spot to read.

The older kids and younger student have developed really sweet bonds through their participation in reading buddies, this has lead to building community in our school and increased the joy of reading. We really appreciate your generosity by giving to Donors Choose and helping to make this reading buddy program a success.”

    With gratitude,

    Funded Jan 3, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity!

This donation will allow us to offer our students more high interest books to share with their families and also have more hands on activities to build their literacy skills.

This donation will benefit many children from a economically disadvantaged school.

This is a wonderful surprise & a great way to start 2020!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diana

With this project my at risk students will have a chance to be engaged in high interest literacy activities. Some of the key elements to improving students' literacy outcomes include- building phonemic awareness, exposure to print, home school connection, and vocabulary development. I hope to address all of these components in my project. My project will include fun hands on phonemic awareness games and colorful fiction and non fiction books with a take home bag. The books include a variety of interesting topics including sports and animals. The games will include sorting activities to practice sound symbol relationships and a rhyming game. Children will have a chance to select books with topics of personal interest. In addition, I will help students find books at their reading level. These books and activities will go home in a book bag. Once the child is at home, they will have books to read at their level, as well as, a book or an activity that the family can enjoy together. Reading and playing educational games will give opportunities for connection and vocabulary building. This experience will build a home school connection and promote the excitement of learning. The books and manipulative activities are selected carefully to be of high interest for first and second grade students. These materials will help develop vocabulary and bring the opportunity to share the joy of books at home. This increased exposure to language in print will increase the confidence and improve outcomes for our most at risk students.
