  • Creating Calm for Preschoolers

    Funded Apr 9, 2022

Wow, I am OVERJOYED to have my project fully funded. I can't WAIT to use these amazing calming materials with my students. With these materials, I hope to bring some desperately needed calm and peace into their life. Thank you again for your very generous contribution to my project.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saro

  • Engaging Little Learners During Virtual Read Alouds

    Funded Nov 12, 2020

Your very generous contributions helped to purchase some wonderful books to share during read aloud times with my students during our virtual learning model. Students were motivated to snuggle up and listen to a read aloud with the books that you helped provide.

Before every read aloud, I choose an object to place in a 'mystery box' that pertains to the story. Students are given clues to help them figure out what is inside! Students loved finding a monster in the mystery box to go along with the story 'Monster Feelings'! This story helped us think about learn about and label different feelings. In my preschool classroom we work hard on social-emotional skills, including labeling and understanding feelings. We have referred back to the fun illustrations in this book many times as we have experienced many different feelings over the course of our virtual learning, and our very recent start back to in person learning.

The story titled "Lucy's Mask" fit perfectly into our clothing study. It also was a wonderful and relatable story for students, as they saw Lucy wearing all different types of dress up masks and eventually wearing a facial mask that we are all required to wear at school. The story set the stage perfectly for a game we played afterwards where I had pictures posted of the students with a mask icon covering their face and we had to guess who was 'under the mask'...it was a hit!!

Thank you so very much for your donation. The books donated have a permanent place on my classroom bookshelf and will be used with students for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Saro

  • Motivating Little Learners for Virtual Learning!

    Funded Sep 7, 2020

It took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes to get the email from Donors Choose that my project for virtual learning was funded. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for investing in my students and the success of our virtual learning. I am so thankful.”

    With gratitude,

My sweet students will be learning virtually for (at least) the first nine weeks of this school year! I want to kick off the school year by providing some materials to their families. These materials will help motivate them to encourage participation in activities at home with their families. Please help me build my students communication, social-emotional, cognitive, and motor skills with these materials for them to use throughout our virtual learning experience together. As a preschool teacher, I take my students first experience on their school journey very seriously...I want it to be positive, motivating, nurturing, and full of learning! Many of my students are pre-verbal, and communication skills are a main focus of instruction! Bubbles are a huge hit with preschool age students, and are a super motivating material to use to encourage students to use a device, vocalization, gesture, or word to request more! The plastic pointers are a fun way to students to demonstrate their understanding of academic concepts that we learn and practice (ex: "Go on a red hunt in your room, and point to all of the red things that you see!"); this extra fun tool motivates students to want to participate in the activity!
