  • The Outsiders: Give Teens the Experience We Enjoyed (Pt. 2)

    My students and I wish to extend our heartfelt appreciation for your generosity in providing new hardback copies of The Outsiders for our class. There is no shortage of worthwhile projects and causes to support, and you chose ours. Thank you!

    With new books in hand, my students were able to enjoy the incredible academic and personal journey through this iconic teen literary experience. From the basic analysis of literary elements (plot, character development, setting), to a study of Hinton's skill and craft (including her masterful use and creation of irony, foreshadowing, tone, and voice), to personal reflections on how and why the novel's themes remain relevant to teen's today, ours was a truly holistic endeavor. The experience culminated with magnificent team Body Biography character projects, some of which are pictured here.

    Thank you again for your kindness. New books not only serve a functional purpose. They tell kids that people care about them and the quality of their education.”

We are requesting a class set of The Outsiders. Nearly 50 years after its initial publication, The Outsiders remains a modern day classic, and with good reason. Author SE Hinton said her motivation for writing it was to create a story that truly reflected the struggles teens face. Decades later, styles and technology have changed, but these struggles remain relatively constant.
