New underwear for growing bodies
Funded Dec 11, 2024My students were very appreciative of the new underwear they were able to receive, thanks to you. This school year we have held two clothing drives and two dates when families have come to pick out the clothes they need. We will be holding at least one more later in the year. However, since this is donated clothes, underwear are not included. Knowing that my students are new immigrants, many living in shelters, I knew they would be in need of underwear. I did not know though how they would react to being told I had underwear for them to pick out. I thought some might be embarassed. However, with the exception of 3 girls, all others were just happy about it. They were able to take 7 pairs each. We openned the packs so they could pick out different materials, colors, and styles. They enjoyed the "shopping"experience. I let them these were bought with donations from people they did not know. They were very touched to hear that people they don't know would care about them and be so kind and generous. One commented that she will remember to do something like that when she has a job. Several who heard her say this said it was a great idea and they will also. You've provided them with the comfort of new underwear and also inspired them. Thank you again for making this possible.”

Period Products for Low Income Teens
Funded Oct 22, 2024I would like to once again thank you for your kindness and generosity. We received a large variety of tween and teen sized pads, for light, regular, and heavy flow, as well as overnight pads and liners. Not having teen daughters myself, I did not even know this variety existed and wish it had when I was a teen. We also received a cart to keep the products organized. Unfortunately, the school administration thought some girls would not be responsbile and may vandalize or destroy the products, if we placed them in the bathroom. We therefore placed the cart in a discrete corner in a room that is always open, oftem empty, and mostly used by women. Having to bring the girls in small groups to show them where products are allowed me see their reactions, which I wouldn't have had if they been placed in the bathroom.
As I showed them the variety of the product, they smiled, oohed, pointed out which ones they liked or looked good, and commented on how much better those were than the "huge ones" they give them in the office. I explain to them that they could get them anytime they wanted, did not have to ask anyone, and that they could take extras if they needed them for the night or for the weekend. They expressed appreciating all of this with comments about how embarassed they feel asking for a pad in the office and how much they hate when there is a male teacher around. What they expressed the most gratitude for was being able to take more than one, if that is what they need. Some were in disbelief and asked for clarification. I thank you once again for your generosity.”
