Research shows that manipulatives help students learn by allowing them to move from hands-on, concrete experiences to abstract reasoning. Using manipulatives while learning math encourages students to focus in on their mathematical thinking skills. As a teacher, it is my goal to ensure that all of my students have a strong mathematical foundation before moving on from kindergarten. Manipulatives make learning math so much fun! While it is important to note the developmental and cognitive benefits of learning with math manipulatives, it is equally important to note that math manipulatives peak student interest and enjoyment of the subject. Engaged learners are strong learners!
