This project will help my little learners with hands on food experiences. Using a microwave, hotplate, or toaster oven they will be allowed to be a part of the preparing of the experience. Children are more likely to try the tasting experience if they are involved in making it. It would also enable my students to not just have random experiences, but bi-weekly or monthly tasting experiences. This project will build vocabulary as my learners explain what they thought as they were preparing and tasting their food. This will help in the reading skill. For math it will help with counting the number of ingredient, and dividing it by our students. In science they will see changes. This is very much a cross curricular project. We will use the microwave and refrigerator as we learn about reversible and irreversible changes. The toaster oven would be for making cinnamon toast to go with the oatmeal we could eat during our nursery rhyme unit. I did add all the mixing bowls, utensils, pot, pans, baking sheets, and items to use during the cooking process, so that my students would have all they need to complete the experience. I want it to be as real world as it can get in a little classroom kitchen.
