ESports Materials for an Exceptional Child Needs Classroom
Funded Mar 16, 2024Thank you so much for donating to my special project entitled ESports Materials for a Special Needs Classroom. The materials that were donated, Nintendo Switch, controllers and games, have already made a huge impact in our classroom (please see pictures). The great thing is that the curriculum was brought into our school (DelSesto MS) during the summer, and while all of the video game equipment was taken out, they left the HDTVs and stands. Once this project was funded, I asked our building principal and other admin if I could have a TV set for my classroom and they said yes! My students and staff were overjoyed as we could now create the curriculum that they never got to participate in.
Thanks to your kindness in donating, I was able to create an ESports schedule (see attached pictures) that we will utilize for the remainder of the year. Furthermore, since the TV is on a rolling cart, I am also able to bring the materials to other classrooms for students who would like to give the games a try (there are two other classrooms in the school that are the same as mine). The curriculum is being met with much enthusiasm and it is increasing the students motivation and participation to attend school. The students love all the games that were donated. We now even have a "video game of the day" that we schedule to get them excited!
In conclusion, thank you so much. All of my students have a severe, significant learning disability and for some, this is the only chance that they will get to play this Nintendo Switch, games competitively and cooperatively with each other. Furthermore, all of these students are in the eighth grade and are graduating this year and this is their third and final year with me. I am so happy that they get to experience the thrill, fun of Esports before they move on to high school where the curriculum is more readily available. Finally, I also now have everything I need to keep the curriculum going for the future students I will have in class,”

WhiteBoard Tables for Exceptional Needs Classroom
Funded Nov 4, 2019Thank you so much for the three whiteboard tables for my exceptional needs classroom. The tables were met with much enthusiasm, excitement & surprise. The tables have enhanced the class in a variety of ways. The students love being able to practice their writing on the desk and it has been beneficial as I can see that they are writing more. In addition, they also like drawing on them and I have seen some amazing pictures being produced from my students that I thought were not possible.
These tables that were purchased were a game changer for my classroom. Perhaps, the best part about receiving these tables is for my non-verbal students that are in wheel-chairs. They no loner have to walk to the board to write an answer, rather they can do it right in their seat making the experience much more convenient. I also noticed an improvement in many of my student's writing, especially with their names and such.
In addition to the tables, I also had a giant rug and a saucer chair ordered. These items have also enhanced the class and provided inspiration for my next Donor's Choose project being preferential seating for a special needs classroom. My students love sitting on the rug and taking turns relaxing in the saucer chair. All in all everything donated has enhanced the class by far,”

Funded Nov 25, 2019Thank you so much for helping my classroom obtain a refrigerator for our Self-Contained Exceptional Child Services Classroom. It has made an immediate impact on our classroom in a variety of ways. First off, it is now much more convenient to properly store drinks, lunches & snacks that our students bring in from home. Secondly, and most importantly, it is now used to teach valuable life skills to our students & has helped them immensely in becoming more independent in utilizing a refrigerator properly.
The refrigerator was met with much excitement and enthusiasm when it first arrived in my classroom. I didn't tell my students nor my staff about it & when it arrived everybody was shocked. The staff was extremely excited because the classroom now has more of a homely look. The students were thrilled and couldn't wait to touch, inspect and store their goods in it. The icing on the cake was the fact that we now had a freezer & can teach the students how to make ice, a function that will come in handy when it is very hot during the summer.
The next steps for my classroom is to continue to get real-life appliances in the classroom that will help my students with their life skills and achieve more independence. If you notice some of the pictures I have uploaded, you can see that I now have a refrigerator, microwave, table and other items that you would find in a kitchen. I plan on getting even more items and will be able to simulate how to properly eat lunch, check the refrigerator, set the table, heat up their food, clean up and much, much more. There is so much more to come but we are very happy with what we have right now including our new refrigerator, thank you again so much,”
