Many of my students this year are cognitively and physically very below their age and need lots of hands-on materials to learn. These donations will give them the opportunity to build on their literacy skills: learning the alphabet and recognizing letters, math skills: counting, sorting, identify shapes, physical skills: learning to jump, grasping, strengthening fine motor skills, social studies skills: learning about diversity and different jobs people have, and science skills: exploring and describing, with these hands-on activities. The students will have daily access to technology and it will help reinforce the lessons taught in our classroom. For example, one lesson using these items would be demonstrating knowledge of the alphabet. With the Learning Resources Alphabet Acorns Activity, students would be invited to explore the acorn letters, we would talk about the characteristics of each letter and the sounds of the letter in various words. Then they would sort them by color, building their math skills, as well.
Since my students need more hands-on experiences this year, these age-appropriate activities would help keep them more engaged, and they would enjoy their learning from this DonorsChoose.org project.
When students have hands-on opportunities and are age-appropriate for their cognitive abilities, then they smile more, enjoy their learning time, and ask for more hugs from the excitement of accomplishments! Please help my students get the materials they desperately need.
Thank you.
