These books will continue to expand students' knowledge of their community and stories outside their own identity. Through these stories, students will have the opportunity to better understand the world around them and spark change in their local community. Most importantly, this project will expand and diversify the middle school literary canon. These books will help expose students to stories in literature they can identify with and will challenge their preconceptions or assumptions about the experiences embedded in their community. Help my students learn more about what it means to participate in a diverse and civically engaged community.
