  • We Need Computers for Music Class

    Funded Feb 20, 2020

I apologize for never sending this impact letter! Our students appreciate having the option to use a laptop in the music classroom, and it allows me to provide a space for students to cool down as well. Technology in the music room is important because music today is often produced and edited on computers. Music that we listen to is also accessed via computers and the internet.

Thank you for expanding our recesses and for your kindness towards our school community. We have been able to provide so many resources to our students with your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Mx. Fayazi

  • Bold and Brassy in the Bronx

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

Your donation has made a huge impact on our fifth grade band. I was able to replace some of our old damaged instruments, as well as open up a few more spots in the band from previous years. The students are building a sense of responsibility as they learn to play and take care of their instruments, and we can already play 3 songs!

The drummers are learning to set up their instruments on their own and their beats are strong and consistent. Students in lower grades come to the door to listen and can not wait until they are old enough to join the band!

Thank you for making this all possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mx. Fayazi

  • Bold and Brassy in the Bronx Pt 2

    Funded Dec 24, 2022

This project being funded is wonderful news. Our band program grows bigger and bigger with each project and I’m so glad that my students can have the opportunity to participate in band at school without financial responsibility. Thank you for being a part of our journey and our growth! Thank you for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

  • Bronx Bass Drum

    Funded Dec 8, 2022

I really appreciate all of you that contribute - especially those of you who have supported us already in the past! Our band program has grown so much through your love and support and it’s so great to be able to provide this opportunity to our students. Band was an important part of my upbringing, and you help me bring that my students.”

  • Raising the Volume: Speakers for Outdoor Events

    Funded Jun 10, 2021

The speakers you helped us raise money for have made a LOUD impact on our school community - our voices are loud and present at our graduation ceremonies, music keeps us dancing at community events, and our outdoor Spring concert was a huge success!

Students deserve all of the best resources, and I personally believe my students deserve the very best. A solid set of outdoor speakers seems like a simple item to have on hand, but it has really added a layer to our events. Our physical education classes are also able to use the speaker as students stay active.

All in all, thank you for your support and we are happy to have a great set of speakers to keep the music pumping through our halls and community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mx. Fayazi

  • (Piano) Keys to Success!

    Funded Jan 23, 2020

My apologies on this very late thank you letter, but I assure you that PS 42 is still grateful for these wonderful keyboards. In the Spring, schools closed right as we were about to start our piano unit, and we were unable to play.

Now, however, we are about to start a unit in our 4th and 5th grade classes with our set of pianos that will allow students to each use their own keyboard and then wipe down with cleaning wipes for the next students' use the next day.

I am thrilled that even though it is a challenge to learn and teach in these times, we have the tools to make music thanks to your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

  • Writing the Songs of Our Heart

    Funded Oct 24, 2019

This project has been helpful in organizing my classroom space and the paper the work that we do in class. We have a large supply of pencils, and they are easily sharpened! I don't have to worry if I have enough pencils for the whole class.

The smoothness of class is the biggest impact. As a teacher, I can grab the copies I need from the shelf easily, my pencils are in a clearly marked bin, and our students are able to find the supplies they need and sharpen the pencils. Now I will also be able to better track my students' work with their work saved away in the files!

Thank you for making this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mx. Fayazi

  • Marching to the Beat of Our Own Drums

    Funded Oct 11, 2019

My band students are abuzz about these new instruments! When they saw the boxes arrive at the front office they could not wait for rehearsal that next Tuesday to play their first notes. I personally felt giddy sitting on my classroom floor assembling snare drum harnesses and unboxing trombones and trumpets.

Now, we have mastered our first notes and songs, our drum line can maintain a steady cadence, and everyone's technique is growing and leveling up each week.

The band is excited to learn new music with goals including playing with the chorus in our Spring concert and cheering on whoever we can with our brass and beats!

Thank you so much for making this project possible! The impact it has made on our 5th grade students is clear and we are becoming better musicians every rehearsal.”

    With gratitude,

    Mx. Fayazi

Music programs are scarce in New York City, and even more scarce than music is the experience of playing in a band. While growing up, I was privileged enough to have a band program that motivated me to bring this joy to children some day, and here I am teaching 5th graders that same joy! Our band needs new instruments! We have been working with a nonprofit in the past that helped bring instruments to our school, but unfortunately, due to limited funding at our Title I school, we are unable to continue that partnership. It is very costly running a band program, and the plastic trumpets and trombones and marching drumline equipment will have a long life in our school's music classroom. These instruments will bring life to band for our students, from the 4-year-olds dreaming of playing the drums to the 4th graders who have been excited all Summer. Music is greatly respected at our school - our administration and staff understand the value of this program, band will support our family outreach, and our students leave music class with new perspectives and songs in their hearts. Please consider supporting our program!
