Mental Health Classroom Upgrade-2
Funded Dec 13, 2024When the new resources, including rope lights, coloring books, and fidget toys, arrived in my classroom, the students were immediately excited to explore how these materials would enhance their learning environment. The rope lights created a calming, inviting atmosphere that helped students feel more comfortable and focused during class. We used the coloring books for an art-based project where students were able to express their emotions and experiences through their artwork. The fidget toys have proven to be incredibly useful for students who need to maintain focus during lessons. These tools helped create a sensory-friendly space where each student could learn in a way that suited their needs.
The initial reaction from my students was one of pure joy and curiosity. The moment they saw the colorful rope lights being turned on, many of them smiled and commented on how much better the room looked. It was a big shift from the typical classroom environment, and they were eager to see how the lights would help them concentrate. When they discovered the fidget toys and coloring books, they eagerly began using them during classwork. The students found that having something to fidget with while they worked allowed them to focus better, and the coloring books offered a creative outlet for those who needed a break from traditional work.
Looking ahead, my students are continuing to engage with these resources in new ways. As part of a current project where we are discussing emotions and self-regulation, the students will use the coloring books to illustrate their feelings, while the rope lights will provide a calm environment for these reflective moments. The fidget toys are still integral to helping students focus during group discussions and activities. In the next steps, we will expand on these creative projects, allowing students to not only showcase their work but also integrate sensory-friendly tools into their daily learning routines. Your donation has made a lasting impact, and we're excited to keep progressing with these new tools in place.”
