  • Warm Hearts Make Warm Dogs 2023

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

My students and I had so much fun making blankets for the Iditarod sled dogs! We measured and cut fabrics, which were some students' first experience. It was a great way to tie a math standard (measuring) to a real life project. They were so proud of their project. It was heart warming to see my students talk about helping dogs and wanting them to be nice and warm after a hard race. I'm sure the Iditarod vet team was appreciative of receiving the blankets all the way from Florida. Thank you so much for your support with this project.”

  • Shared Writing for Blossoming Writers

    Funded Jul 24, 2021

Thank you for funding my project. This year we were able to really focus on writing because of the materials that we received through this project. I was able to model writing on chart papers so that the students could see what good writing looks like. The students kept daily journal in their notebooks. They loved sharing their writing with the classmates. The best project was to publish a class book at the end of the school year called "Book of Favorites." The students were very proud of their work and being a great author! I greatly appreciate your support!”

  • Excited for a New School Year!

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you for funding my project. It's hard to believe the school year is almost over! The items that we received through this project really helped us have a great year. The students kept their books and materials nicely organized in their book bins, which taught them to be responsibility. The seat sacks were so helpful since the students kept their iPad and headphones in them. They were easily accessible throughout the day so we went without loosing a lot of instructional time. I feel very fortunate to have your support to provide all the materials that my students needed. Thank you.”

  • Phonics Fun With Sensory Tools

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you for funding my project. The items that we received through this project made phonics and reading practice more fun and exciting. The students enjoyed using a "reading phone" during independent reading time. Pop-Its helped sounding out and stretching words when students were working on phonics. But my students' favorite was Flashlight Friday! They used the finger lights and flashlight to read books. They thought it was just such a treat! As a teacher whenever students are excited about learning, it makes my heart smile. I truly appreciate your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DeGroot

  • Digital Books for Guided Reading

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

Thank you for funding my project. First grade is a crucial year for learning to read. They need a lot of books that are at just right reading level. The more they read, the better they get. Raz-Kids leveled readers provided students with many fun and interesting books. The students were able to practice reading without getting frustrated since all the books were at their level and then move up the reading level, which motivated them to read more. They also enjoyed recording their reading so that I can listen to them read! Raz-Kids really helped my students become a good reader!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. DeGroot

My students attend a public school in a small town in Iowa. Our school has been in a budget crisis just like many other schools in our state, which means not much funding for new materials for the classrooms. We do the best we can with what we have, but these children deserve more!
