The sensory materials will enhance the small collection of hands-on materials we already have in the classroom. The children learn best when they are able to touch and explore. The children use the sand table, play dough, and fidget toys each day. However, due to the special needs of the students they need an assortment of sensory items to use. The sensory beads, sensory shapes, sensory tubes, liquid sensory windows, and magnetic letters will be used for hands-on learning center play. The children will be able to see, touch, smell and explore as they play. With these new materials they will be able to choose from a variety of materials during center time. Sensory play helps to calm children with Autism. As they touch, the children seem to laugh more and we hear more expressive language (lots of sounds and words)! So as the children play, they are improving their communication skills and social skills. My students will be so excited to receive the new sensory items! This project will help to continue improve their preschool experience.
