Building Strong Minds with Extra Support!
Funded Dec 5, 2023It is hard to put into words what a great impact these books are having on my students. They are able to present many Math and Ela concepts in a much simpler manner. This allows my Special Needs students to process and retain the new information more easily.
I have seen a significant improvement in my students ability to process and apply new concepts. They are less intimidated by the material and are willing to take more risks.
These Workbooks have helped my students understand that it is OK to make mistakes and that it is actually part of the learning process.
My students and I would like to thank you for your generous donations to our Donor's Choose project. Your dollars are hard at work each and every day building the minds of these great children.”
With gratitude,
Mr. P.

Funded Oct 17, 2022Thank you so much for funding our project. We have a late lunch period each day so the children get a 15 minute snack break at 11:00AM each day. Unfortunately many of our families do not have a budget for daily snacks and most days there are a few children without. Thanks to your generous donations everyone who has needed snack for the last few months has had one!
It is a beautiful thing each and everyday when someone doesn't have a snack from home and then they see me take out a little something for them. That little something (snack) came from the great donors at Donors Choose.
Several times a week we have discussions about nutrition and the right kinds of foods to eat. We spend time asking ourselves if we are eating the "right" kind of snacks. We then discuss how we can modify/change our eating habits in order to be a little more healthy.”

Mr. P.
A Giant World of Reading
Funded Jan 6, 2022Due to your generous donations I was able to create a class library that really helps improve the reading levels of many of my students. Getting kids to read can sometimes be tricky especially if they have poor reading skills to begin with. They become self conscious and easily discouraged. If a classroom library has a variety of interesting books on many topics, each child can find something that engages them.
They are more likely to continue picking up books, practice their reading skills and ask questions about what they have read . The books we acquired because of your generous donations have allowed my students to escape and help their imaginations run wild while transporting them to new places.
In celebration of Women's history month our class chose to focus on Ruby Bridges who
was the first girl of color to attend an all white school for the first time. Both individually and as a class we were able to engage in deep discussions about what it was like for Ruby to attend an all white school and the challenges that this little girl had to face. Not only did the children improve their reading and comprehension skills, but reading this book together also gave them a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Many of the other books purchased through Donor's choose also helped the students with basic reading skills like decoding new words they had never seen and being able to make inferences based on what they had read. One of the most challenging skills for new young readers is being able to infer what is being said in a story when it isn't stated specifically. Thank you all again for helping me create a great classroom library.”

Effective Remote Teaching for Special Education Students.
Funded Dec 1, 2020This school year has presented teachers and families with challenges that they have never faced before. Covid has made us scramble for new ways to engage our students online. Due to your generous donations I was able to receive an Extra Computer Monitor to attach to my Laptop computer. Having the screen on the laptop PLUS the second monitor I received, allowed me to use one screen (monitor from donors) to view and interact with the students while I could use the laptop screen for conducting lessons and sharing online interactive lessons. If I was only using the laptop I would have to keep switching between different windows on one screen. With the second Monitor I received, I can always see the students and interact with them while presenting information on my laptop.
My students love that I can see them and interact with them while simultaneously presenting lessons and information on the other laptop screen.
I teach a Special Needs group of children who are less able to work independently and require a lot more one to one support. I was able to provide that closer level of support because I could interact with them on a separate dedicated screen while presenting a specific set of information.”
