Special Learning Needs Special Technology

Funded Oct 11, 2019

This project has helped my students immensely in the classroom. Chromebooks empower students with disabilities to access curriculum content. For example, students with reading disabilities are able to employ speech-to-text and text-to-speech technology to enhance reading comprehension and written expression. In addition, the chromebooks offer engaging ways for students to build upon academic skills at their own level and pace through self-directed learning programs such as iReady. The most exciting thing for my students is that they are able to take ownership of their learning through choosing content and demonstrating their learning in ways that best fit their learning profiles and interests. Exploration of digital libraries has helped foster a great love of reading, while platforms such as Google and Nearpod have given students the opportunity to creatively communicate their knowledge and ideas through a compilation of media such as audio, images, and video. Chromebook technology also allows students to conduct research and organize/analyze data related to inquiry-based projects. In short, this project provides every student with equal opportunities to succeed in challenging, but fun learning activities during the school day.”

With gratitude,
