  • Scholastic Me This!

    Funded May 24, 2021

Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to read engaging, authentic, relevant articles. Not only are the magazines interesting for them to read but they also build the foundation for rich discussion. This is not an east feat to accomplish with the at-risk students in my school. It makes me so happy to see them so engaged and involved in the topics we discuss. I have one student who was recently released from prison spearhead a class talk on stress and teens. Also, the activities that go with the magazines are a huge time saver for me and a big relief in a time where we are given extra responsibilities without any extra time to complete them. We thank you so much for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fox

  • You Can Do Anything With the Right Tablet!

    Funded Sep 19, 2020

Thank you for allowing me to provide quality education during this ever-changing school year. From September until now I have after aged between teaching students in person, online, as well as both at the same time. The device I was using last year wasn't compatible with some of the new tools that exist, like "jam board", which is way to write notes just like in a real classroom.

The device you helped me to get has a touch screen with a pen tool that allows me to write directly on the screen while also being compatible with google classroom.

Since my students teachers have changed so frequently, I did my best to provide consistency and created the lessons that were to be used for both students who are remote and in person. This is vital because at a moments notice, we often had to switch gears due to classroom and school closures. My students never skipped a beat and those transitions were seamless for us.

Thank you for making a complex school year a little easier to navigate!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fox

  • I Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie!

    Funded Dec 31, 2019

I wish I could send you photos of these wonderful books in action. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, I am unable to do that but what I can tell you is the amazing tool these books are for me to help keep students engaged while participating in distance learning.

I am currently teaching character analysis and literary elements using the poetic novel "Long Way Down" by Jason Reynolds. I'm not sure if I would have been able to keep them interested in the material without it. The students are engaged in the text, the poems are short and accessible but also culturally responsive and high-interest. Despite it being an easy read, there is so much deep analysis going on and the kids are really "getting it" -and enjoying it! I am heart-stuck to see what they are capable of and I owe it to all of you!

I am truly grateful and excited to do more with these texts next school year!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Fox

I’m teaching in a new school next year and need to rebuild my library from the ground up! The population I serve is exclusively students with special needs and access to engaging literature and shared texts is critical to their progress and success. Thank you for helping me bring the reader out in all of my students! We will use these books for shared reading and experiences and for independent reading at home and in class. Building an engaging, diverse library is critical for activating thinking for struggling students and I want to give them a library that they enjoy instead of one they roll their eyes at. Thank you!
