The selected supplies will be used to help our most vulnerable students learn the pre-requisite skills in English Language Arts and Mathematics utilizing interactive games and resources. Last year students were unable to interact with one another due to COVID restrictions. This year, I want to be able to facilitate a space where collaboration and interaction are possible.
We want our students to return after a year of uncertainty to a class where they are excited to learn and interact with teachers and peers. As we need to build reading foundational skills at a young age, the phonics cubes, Pop for blends, Pop for word families, Pop for sight words will all be used in lessons that teach phonemic awareness. I have found that students love games, and it helps to motivate students and build their memory. I will use the Domino games for short, long, and digraphs to teach beginnings, word ending, rhyming words, spelling, and more. The card stock and Ziploc bags will be useful as we make practice activities for math and reading in small groups.
The magnetic ten frame sets will help my students become more fluent in making tens. This will build a strong foundation of place value. When students are able to compose and decompose numbers into tens, they can better manipulate numbers mentally. The Magnetic base ten set and Make a splash 120 floor game are also exciting ways for students to help reinforce place value. It is important to established a strong foundation in place value because it provides the foundation for regrouping and multiple-digit multiplication. It is also a starting point for the understanding of other base systems. These interactive games will help motivate our struggling learners to participate and build a strong foundation.
