  • Tools for the Dean’s Office!

    Funded Oct 31, 2024

Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness in supporting our self-regulation and stress-relief tools for our dean's office. Our school is committed to fostering a phone-free environment for students, and focused on student well-being and mental health. In the dean's office, we collect and store the students' phones daily, and try to supply them with screen-free ways to connect, build relationships, and de-escalate when they are stressed.

The fidgets, stress toys, and mental health supports for our students are greatly appreciated and we are are reaping the benefits!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Flaherty

  • Loving Literacy Tools!

    Funded Sep 17, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting our studies of literature! I can’t wait to implement them in our classroom and give our students the scaffolds they need to fully access the great texts we read. We are already using lots of Post-its and hi-literals as we practice our college-ready notetaking, so these supplies are much needed! We thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Flaherty

Before college, it is important that all readers and writers practice study skills such as annotation and picking out key information (post-its and hi-liters!), and struggling readers build the necessary skills to access higher-level texts. My co-teacher and I will use the graphic novels to pique interest in hesitant readers, and to support their comprehension. They will not use any of the supportive texts (graphic novels, No Fear) as a replacement, but rather as an aid to comprehension of the original text. Students will use the texts side-by-side. We will also use some of the tangible learning aids to assist students with learning differences (fidget bouncers; reading strips) and encourage students to use these independently - building self-management skills for college!
