Our students participated in the 2019 Louisiana Teen Readers' Choice Program, and overwhelmingly voted for Alton Carter's Aging Out. Imagine their delight to discover that their top choice had won! They had the satisfaction of knowing that they were part of a larger community of readers and taste makers, part of a state-wide group of young people who had all committed to reading and judging the same books. The Library Club hosted a pizza party at our school's library the day we cast our votes.
Now... Alton Carter has agreed to come to our school. We want as many students as possible to read Aging Out before he comes to visit our school so that we can pack the auditorium with students who are familiar with his work and his message. We also want to invite our teachers and staff on this literary journey with us. This event is especially important to us because many of our students have experienced Mr. Carter's journey into and out of the foster care system. This book is worthy of a school-wide discussion and we want to share it with our peers.
