On the Come Up
Funded Mar 4, 2020First I want to thank you for your generous donations, without them getting this class set would not have been possible. This is the second book that I have had funded and that I will read with my students.
Unfortunately, due to school switching to digital last spring, I was not able to share this wonderful book with my students from last year, but I am excited to be able to share it with my new students this school year. I believe this book will spark a love for reading in my students, especially those who don't enjoy reading or struggle.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Feliciano

Funded Nov 21, 2019I first want to thank you for your generous donations, without them getting this class set would not have been possible. This is the first time I have ever taught a book, so I was nervous at first. A colleague and I have worked very hard at creating an engaging and meaningful approach to teaching this book to our students. Our lessons include opportunities for the students to read silently, partner read, and listen to the audio-book.
This is a long book and I wanted to make sure that my students were engaged every time we read, which is why reading in my classroom probably looks different than what it would look like in others. We are reading the book three days a week; silent reading, partner reading, and audio-book. Each time that we read there is a starting and stopping point for each of the students to follow. Each time we read the students are held accountable for their reading by taking notes, filling in graphic organizers, exit slips, enter slips, and summaries of the reading. There is a culminating project that is due at the end of the book.
So far the book has been a success with most of my students. I can confidently say that I have about 95% participation from my students. It is exciting to see students whom normally don't do classwork or read enjoy the book. Even my most challenging class is enjoying the book and are fully engaged. It makes my heart so happy to see these students engaged and enjoying the book.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Feliciano
