My students LOVE to move. They are young, they are vibrant, and their bodies CRAVE movement! Due to COVID-19 regulations, my students will need their own individualized equipment this year for music. If I can equip each student with a scarf, this will create more opportunity for us to move together virtually and also safely move in individual space when we return to face-to-face learning. Scarves help children feel more confident. Their awareness goes to the scarf and away from how they may be feeling about their bodies. They are eye-catching, tangible classroom tools that can transform a musical space into an arena of focused and beautiful kinesthetic learning! We will mirror movement with one another, improvise, stretch, and respond to all kinds of music using these colorful scarves. I can't wait to put scarves into the hands of my students. Every year, it's always one of my favorite ways to engage in movement activities. I love the way the students' eyes sparkle when they create movement with their floating, colorful swatch of fabric. This year is going to be a unique one, and I know that giving my students their very own scarf will be a true gift to their bodies and minds as we engage in music and movement together.
