I am a first-year music teacher, I have been trying to expand the tools and resources in my music room. We have four newly added preschool classes to the school this year. For preschool specifically, I have been trying to find hand puppets and more unpitched percussion instruments that students can experiment and explore with. One of my favorite songs as a child growing up was "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly". One of the resources that I'm asking for is a puppet that students can physically manipulate and add to after each verse that we sing. As for my upper elementary grades, I am looking at more tools and resources that I can use to create new and engaging lesson plans. I am planning a program/concert for my upper elementary students to perform for their parents and teachers, and I want them to have the opportunity to showcase their knowledge of Orff instruments, Boomwhackers, as well as unpitched percussion, and folk dances. Ideally, I would like third grade to perform a traditional folk dance with an Orff accompaniment. For the fourth grade, I would love to be able to see them perform a Boomwhacker arrangement of a pop culture song. Finally, for my fifth grade, I would like them to use a combination of the unhitched percussion, boomwhackers, and Orff instruments in their concert to demonstrate to their parents and teachers at the end of the year just how much they've learned while being in music.
