  • Winter Warmth and Well Wishes

    I want to sincerely thank you for your very kind donations. As you know, our school was hoping for items to keep the students warm and comfortable. Thanks to you, all the students who needed them, received socks, gloves and hats. Keeping the students warm and protected from the cold elements will provide them with the opportunity to get out of the house and be active, which will improve their focus and energy, promoting academic success. They were very happy and thankful. The students told the staff that they are able to be outside for longer periods of time (This is crucial, especially during remote learning). Research shows that "spending time in fresh air, increases energy in 90 percent of people and promotes higher levels of positive emotions" According to Richard Ryan, researcher and professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. This has been significantly beneficial as all our students have a social emotional diagnosis. I also was to thank you for the donation for the "Inspirational" bracelets. The students had a lot of fun earning them and are very proud to wear their bracelets.

    It is with great pleasure to write this letter of gratitude. Thanks to Donor's Choose, the 42 students who attend Springfield Public Day Middle School received and benefited from greatly needed sensory tools and school supplies. Because of the donation, the students are showing greater successful as they can focus more on their academic tasks.

    The students who attend our school often do not have the resources to get all they need for class. Now that we are working remotely, it is even more difficult as the students are not getting the material daily from school. With the donation, the students can get items sent right to their home and again, making the school more successful.

These items will help calm the students, focus in the classroom, decrease anxiety and relieve stress. Sensory toys provide the particular sensory input that many children with autism crave. Whether it is visual or tactile, the toys have the power to capture the child's attention, making the right sensory toy a powerful reward. The positive benefits of sensory toys are unparalleled when it comes to looking for ways to help children develop the most important learning functions at a young age. Thank you in advance for any donations made. Please note quantities vary as some of the items will be kept in the counselors' offices, mind up (sensory) room, classrooms and/or used as incentives.
