Students learn best when they feel safe and comfortable. Flexible seating allows students to feel a sense of ownership in their learning by being able to choose where they learn best. For students who do not have much control in their lives, giving them this option in the classroom can be very powerful. Right now, when working independently, my students are able to sit at their seats, on the floor with a clipboard, or on the rug. With flexible seating, my students will be able to choose from floor cushions, lap desks, seats with pedals, chair bands, and wobble cushions. My students are very active second graders who become more engaged when given the choice to find where they learn best. These students love to feel ownership over their learning. Flexible seating will allow my students more options of places to sit that work best for their style of learning. These options are light and easy to move, so students can take them to whatever part of the room that works best for their learning. Adding more options in the classroom will help increase my students' engagement and excitement for learning.
