Black and Women Heroes
Funded Feb 9, 2022Thank you for your generosity. Your contributions to this project allowed me to bring a variety of books about women and black people that changed the world. We celebrated February and March reading and learning about people that are less famous but whose efforts, struggles and accomplishments had a long lasting effect in our world.
We dedicated a part of our days to learn about women scientist that helped humans get to the moon like Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson. Also, we learned about the work of Jane Goodall with apes in Africa. We got inspired by Eugenie Clark when she dove with sharks. We loved reading and learning about people that looked like us.
The impact of these books on my class is evident. The books were engaging, full of inspiration and knowledge about a past my students are starting to grapple. Reading and learning about "Black and Women Heroes" definitely sparkled necessary conversations about complex topics in a safe environment.”

Funded Oct 14, 2021Thank you for your generous donations to my project. My students are static to receive these new book collection. The excitement for reading went through the roof in my class.
My students read 30 - 45 minutes in class every day. They have access to the classroom library to exchange and get new books once a week. They choose books that they are interested in and read them at school and also take them home.
Since we added new books to the classroom library my students have shown more interest in reading. Our reading time has become our dearest time of the day. I have one student who was reading at least two years behind grade level at the beginning of this year. When he found a series of books at his level he has not stopped checking out his favorite books. He has made more that a year growth in a very short time. He's always reading now, even during recess time.”

A Classroom Students Won't Want To Leave
Funded Aug 11, 2021My students and I are very thankful for you generous donations to our classroom. Our classroom started the year fresh. The classroom supplies I got from this project allowed me to replace old bins and baskets and also provide my students with brand new materials we use everyday. My students have plenty of colored pencils, scissors, post-its, etc. They enjoy every art or science lesson where they can show their work in bright colors.
My students looked very happy when they first came into my classroom. Some of the materials I received form this project help me decorate the classroom and make bulletin boards. They love to cover the walls with their art and writing projects.
In our classroom, we post our finished projects on the wall for all to see and enjoy. For example we have our informational writing projects up on the walls so they can see all they have accomplished. Usually every project take us about 6 to 8 weeks of hard work to finish. So when we are done we feel very proud of seeing the final products on our walls. Thanks to the great materials we received, the projects look extra beautiful.”

Joyful Learning
Funded May 12, 2021When we opened the packages my students couldn't believe we got some board games for the classroom. We immediately wanted to open everything and start playing which of course we did.
The energy and the excitement in the classroom was high. The anticipation was building. What a great time to teach a lesson about sharing, taking turns and play fair.
My students did great sharing and having fun with one another. We pulled out the games once a week. Every Friday we practiced the social skills of sharing, taking turns, being fair, cleaning up, and being part of a community. The very skills that the pandemic and distance learning had taken away from us.
Even though, we only played on Fridays, we looked forward to it the whole week. This increased the focus, and determination do great everyday. I saw how my students strengthened their relationships with their peers and that was a wonderful experience.”

All Eyes and Ears On Me
Funded Apr 26, 2021Thank you so much for making this project a success. Thanks to the audiovisual devices my class and I received we were able to engage in learning activities in and outside of school. I used the cameras and headphones make videos to support my lessons I taught in class and also to stay in contact with my students and guardians during the times of remote learning.
My students enjoyed and watched my recorded lessons at home. Many of my students and also parents said that the higher quality of my videos helped them reinforce the lessons I taught in class, especially math strategies about multiplication, division and fractions. Many parents said that they watched the videos with their children and really enjoyed learning along with their children.
Several students told me in class that they watched some videos several times and that they helped them understand and complete their homework a lot faster. "Even my dad can do fractions now", one boy told me when we were talking at school.”

Tech for Teachers
Funded Apr 20, 2021This project made our class experience more enjoyable and efficient. My students really noticed the difference when I joined our remote learning sessions on a new computer. My students became more engaged and participated more often since I switched the new computer because it allowed me to connect with my students without interruptions or waiting time.
Some of my students said they were happy I got better technology tools. One boy said: "finally we can hear you". Another student shared: "I'm glad you're still there to help me with my work."
Technology tools that educators use are extremely important specially during these times where we often meeting our students in the virtual world.”

So Many Books so Little Time
Funded Mar 31, 2021I can't express my gratitud enough for helping me update my classrooms library. The books I could obtain through this project have increased the excitement for reading in my classroom. My students are reading books at a higher rate than before.
My students have access to the classroom library once a week. They choose books that they are interested in and read them at school and also take them home. Every day one group of students exchange the books that they finished and get new ones for the coming week.
Since we added new books to the classroom library my students have shown more interest and effort in reading. Our reading time has become our dearest time of the day. I have one students who was reading at least two years behind grade level at the beginning of this year. Funded Mar 11, 2021Thank you so much again for your generous contributions. My class received two set of books that we are going to read this year. We started reading Tales of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. Because I use this story to read out loud and my students have a copy in their hands they can all participate of the experience regardless of their reading levels. Through this beautiful story I am able to teach many different aspects of literature such as character traits, plot, author's craft, vocabulary in context and many more.
We read a chapter or two everyday and discuss, retell and give opinions about the story. We participate in rich conversations about how the characters are and what they might do next. Story time has become a favorite time of the day for many of my students.
Many of my students often request to read beyond our typical chapter or two and even have asked me if they could take their books home to keep reading because they can't wait another day to know what happens to Despereaux.”

Funded Nov 11, 2020I really appreciate your generosity. This year has been a challenge for everyone but especially hard for schools to reopen and stay open in person. The air purifiers that I was able to bring into my classroom offer an extra layer of protection for students, teachers and the whole community.
My students know that it is important to remain cautious and to take every measure possible to reassure that everyone around us is safe. My students were so happy and relieved when I explained how the filters will help us to stay healthy and learn together.
The whole classroom will continue to work and learn together with the confidence that we are as safe as one can be today.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Che
