  • Special Needs Materials For A 2nd Grade Fully Inclusive Classroom

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

It's been a very busy start to the school year! My students are learning so much in every content area and growing in their skills. Your generosity has made a great impact in the daily learning process of students.

Students have been utilizing the clipboards and soft seats for small group centers. This is a time where I target specific phonics skills. Students use the clipboards to lean on as they highlight and circle the phonics skills we are working on as they sit in the soft seats. The students really enjoy having a clip board, it helps motivate them that they are doing important work.

The Readers Theater kits are especially motivating and extremely helpful for students to practice their phonics skills in a small group. The kits are arranged according to ability, so it is very easy to differentiate according to student need. Previously, only the higher level readers had readers theater supplies. Now, thanks to your generosity, every student has access to this and performs their reading skit in front of the whole class. It has been great for students!!

The blending and digraph phonics skill books have been a staple for my small group time with also targeting phonics skills students need. These books are highly engaging and go with the skills students need.

Each and every item in the Donor's Choose package has been put to good use everyday in the classroom. It has greatly helped students learn critical skills that will continue to be a foundation for their education for years to come.

Thank you with all my heart for your generosity and thoughtfulness to give towards a project that greatly impacts students. I wish I could give you a glimpse of what it means to me as a teacher and the students. But please know, it is an enormous blessing to us all.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

  • Hands-On Science, Sensory, Language and Fine Motor

    Funded Dec 20, 2019

The generosity of donors has mad a great impact in the students in my classroom. We use the hands-on sensory science table everyday in class. This is many of my students' favorite place to go. In the science sensory table that you generously gave towards, has many textures that align with the season, our theme or the curriculum we use. Students practice what we are learning independently at the science center. One of their favorite things to do is to pick up items (right now we have clear gems on the table) and they use a scale and weigh each item. Last week they used the clear gems on one side and pine cones on the other side to see what weighed more.

Thank you for your generosity and support for my classroom. It makes such a huge difference in the lives of teachers and students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

  • Sensory Light and Alphabet Materials for Preschool Classroom

    Funded Dec 8, 2020

My students have been using the materials you generously gave towards my project, here on Donors Choose. I have students with special needs in my classroom, and some students seek out sensory experiences. The light tabletop board has been extremely beneficial to my students. This keeps their attention as they use shapes, colors, and letters to learn, while also having fun and meeting their sensory needs all at the same time.

We have also used the dot markers a lot in class during art projects. This has helped students with grasp and fine motor skills. Students have also loved the magnetic puzzle board that was a part of this project. This puzzle board engages students as they use problem solving skills, fine motor skills as well as color sorting.

Thank you so much for your generosity. My classroom is enriched with many necessary resources due to this program and the wonderful donors who selflessly give towards these needs teachers have. You have made a big difference by your contributions.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

  • Special Products for Special Needs in the Classroom!

    Funded Aug 26, 2019

We have been busy in our classroom using the items you so generously helped us to obtain. The most used item so far is the teaching easel, which the students and I absolutely love! I do most of my teaching from this easel. I use it daily to draw pictures, write important words, show patterns and show number for counting. Another item that gets a lot of use are the floor cushions. Most of my students are just learning about keeping their feet and hands to themselves. The floor cushions give them structure to where they sit and they are more comfortable sitting on the floor for our circle time (main learning time). I am also very thankful to have the word picture cards for my nonverbal and my non English speaking students. We have noticed progress using these word picture cards. They are very durable and will last for many years to come.

During choice time/center time, the students are usually found at the sensory table using fine motor skills picking up the sensory items that were also in this project. There are fun shapes and colors such as red spirals, green bumpy balls, blue snowflake shapes which are all very durable and washable. This helps our students build fine motor skills, sort by shape and color and also describe texture. All of these skills are required for us to teach.

We are in the assessment season of our school year. We have used the small group activity boxes for assessments. This has been extremely helpful as I assess their understanding of positional words, I can say to a student, "put the frog on the lilly pad" and they can show me their understanding of what I asked by using the small group positional words activity box. I am so grateful for the generosity of the donors to fund this project for my students to have what they need to succeed in the foundation of their education. Thank you so very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Miller

My project for my classroom is to help teach basic language and life skills to my students who are nonverbal with autism and those who do not have special needs but do not yet speak or understand English. There are a lot of needs and very little funding for the resources the students need. These products will be the foundation for teaching my students skills needed to be successful for every grade level in school. I am the first step in the process for my students. The dry erase board will be used to teach basic skills we are required to assess the students on. These include identifying shapes, counting, basic self care and communication skills. The books and picture cards will be used for everyday language introduction for my students with Autism, speech delays, developmental delays and those who do not yet know English. The seat cushions are for students to be able to give structure to where and how to sit during the engaging lessons I teach.
