Teaching is not always about “teaching”. Sometimes it’s about learning from the failure! These materials will allow our class to learn that failing is not a bad thing! It teaches us to be better thinkers! As the students see these centers presented whole group, they will get an idea of what problems there are to solve or what experiment there is to explore. Next, the activities will be taken into free choice centers, allowing each child to work as their interests lead them. At the end of center time each day, the students that worked at these problem solving and critical thinking centers will give a presentation, kindergarten style to the class! They will explain what they did, what worked and what didn’t, what they did to change it and explaining their thinking...what drove their mind to make that change! Presenting these ideas using these skills gives the students chances to step out into a world of unknowns with the confidence to think beyond what they see! Those skills will allow them to take failure as a challenge, a way of making them better! Not being afraid to fail creates a climate of trust and thinking beyond what we see! Let’s build better thinkers of tomorrow!
