I am an early childhood special education teacher and I teach in a special day classroom, which means students have disabilities such as, autism, speech delays and physical handicaps. Most of my children have little or no language and the best way for them to learn to communicate and interact is through playing with peers. Board games help children develop important social skills that can’t be learned from an electronic device and increases their chances of successful peer interactions. In addition, they help children learn to strategize, problem solve and work as part of a group. It is important for me to instill my students with the confidence they need to make decisions and prepare them for the future. With a variety of board games, my children will learn new words, practice their social skills and participate in meaningful play that is internally motivating and fun!
