I have noticed that my students need to move and aren't always comfortable in their student chairs. Flexible seating will give them a way to stay focused on their assignments and provide a release for their extra energy that can distract them from their learning. Chair bands, wiggle cushions, wobbly stools and bean bags will help my students to have choices in their seating. Last year when I gave two fidgety students wiggle cushions, it helped them to complete their assignments in a more timely manner. These students preferred using these cushions wherever they were sitting, on the floor or on a chair. Their off-task behavior decreased and they participated more. I believe that the wiggle cushion helped them to give them an outlet for their excess energy in a productive way.
