I was doing a project in my classroom called "All About Me". I was looking through the folders that they created and quickly realized that majority of my students have never left the state of Nevada. I then started asking questions and realized that the cost of travel was too high for majority of my students. I instantly thought about my career at Best Buy and remembered that we had explorer packs with augmented reality that allows students to travel the world without even leaving their seats in the classroom. I have thought about many lessons I can teach with this technology, but just the worldly connections that can be made through exploring the world can make a huge difference in the child's learning. We are always told that a key to teaching is allowing students to make connections with the world around them. With this package it would expose students to places they could only dream of visiting and allow for that opportunity to make a connection that much greater. The lessons that come to mind first are the social studies lessons. Students can put themselves right in front of some of the world's natural wonders, or travel wherever they please without leaving the classroom. Then I started thinking about how connection to texts and reading lessons can be adapted with this technology and students could start to travel to where their story takes place. It would be like the "Magic School Bus" and we could immerse ourselves in a text. The teaching and learning opportunities with this technology are endless. This allows for a huge impact on the students' lives and their learning. We could fulfill students' dreams of travel in the classroom.
