Fun pre-academic materials that engage my students with small and large motor activities are meaningful. Playing while learning instills connections between the body and the brain. Learning by movement embeds academics with problem solving skills. Interactive materials like the Alphabet Sounds Picture Puzzles and Nuts About Math will be used one-on-one and in small group settings daily to prepare students for kindergarten. Such materials like the Number Match, Counting Cars, Alpha-Bots, Number Peg Boards, Counting Cones and Alphabet Maze grab students' attention and enhance the learning process. My students can learn the same skills as their general education peers using manipulatives like these. Their little hands can independently use these objects for a purpose. Math, Language Arts and Speech, along with gross and fine motor movement would be integrated in entertaining ways that promote learning: tossing a bean bag onto an assigned number while jumping or hopping reinforces math skills (Hopscotch carpet), counting and sorting noodles (washable sensory noodles) in the multi-sensory table develops pre-academic math skills.
