I’m a second year teacher in a small town in Mississippi. I have a class of 18 super sweet 2nd graders. We spend a lot of time on our rug during our whole group lessons. The issue that we are having is that my students aren’t able to bring their materials to the rug and actually work there. Since most of my students are hands on learners, sitting on the rug and listening just doesn’t help them learn to the best of their ability. Currently, my students usually end up having to go back to their seats in order to work during whole group lessons. The disruption in making this transition from the rug to their desks throws off our entire lesson. They usually completely lose their focus by going back to their seats. In addition, being at their desks creates so many distractions for them. I think it would be awesome to keep them all together on the rug instead of all over the room in their own desks during this time. I believe that having these floor desks would be so beneficial to our classroom and that they would be able to get so much more out of our lessons! I would love to see my students reach their full potential this year!
