Graphing calculators have become more prominent in use in middle and high school classrooms. Students in the eighth grade taking algebra use these calculators to explore functions, graphs, data, visual representations, and enhancing mathematical skills. Graduating students are expected to possess proficiency in using a graphing calculator upon entering college. My school currently has eighteen graphing calculators. This number is not enough for even one of the following classes that need this instrument: Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Pre-calculus, and Calculus. In short, we are in dire need of technology. Many students question the importance of not only math, but school in general. These calculators provide an enriching supplement of knowledge while providing rich visuals for abstract ideas. I can’t state enough about the benefit and necessity of having these calculators in our classrooms. We are looking to improve our students’ views of the importance of math; their chance of success after they graduate; and their conceptual understanding. Please help our students!
